Small plane crashes on busy San Jose expressway
A single-engine Cessna 177 crashed onto the Capitol Expressway in San Jose, California, on Saturday afternoon. The aircraft, which was carrying two adults and one child, struck an overpass before landing nose-down in the middle of the heavily trafficked roadway near the intersection of Capitol Expressway and Excalibur Drive.
Emergency responders from the San Jose Fire Department reported that while the aircraft sustained heavy damage and a small fuel leak occurred, no vehicles were struck and no pedestrians or bystanders were injured. The three occupants were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are being conducted by the San Jose Fire Department, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
