Small-scale Polish farms find success through diversification
Small-scale farmers in Poland are demonstrating successful business models by focusing on high-value products and direct sales rather than expanding land area.
Agata Leus-Miklewska, owner of the Szeptuchowo farm, manages less than 5 hectares with approximately 20 dairy goats. Her strategy involves processing raw materials into diverse goods, including goat cheese, cow cheese sourced from trusted local suppliers, fruit and herb vinegars, and goat milk-based cosmetics. This diversification reduces dependency on a single product.
Similarly, the AquaPólko farm in Greater Poland, run by Katarzyna and Karol Kapłon, operates on just 3 hectares while employing up to seven people. The farm focuses on intensive organic production of microgreens, various lettuces, seasonal vegetables, and pasture-raised chicken. By utilizing direct sales channels such as social media, markets, and SMS, they maintain a short supply chain and higher profit margins per product.
