Smart agriculture pilot succeeds in Vietnam's Dien Bien Province

A consortium of Japanese companies and research institutions has successfully completed the first harvest of a smart agriculture demonstration project in Dien Bien Province, Vietnam. The project aimed to establish a high-profit smart farming model using data-driven techniques and remote support.

Key participants included Niinuma Co., Ltd., NIINUMA TOMOFARM CO., LTD., NTT Agri Technology, the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO), and NetChart Co., Ltd. The initiative utilized smart greenhouses to cultivate Japanese fruit tomato varieties. Environmental data from the greenhouses was transmitted via NetChart’s ‘P3EG’ IoT gateway to NTT Agri Technology’s remote farming support system.

This technology allowed experts to monitor cultivation status and provide remote guidance to local producers in Vietnam. The system also enabled remote implementation of environmental control settings determined by researchers and local managers. The successful harvest concludes the first phase of the demonstration, with NIINUMA TOMOFARM handling the purchase and sale of the produce.
