Smart Ambulance project integrates 5G and AI for emergency care

The Smart Ambulance project aims to transform emergency medical vehicles into intelligent nodes within the healthcare network by integrating 5G connectivity, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. A collaboration between Ericsson, Medinet, the University of Salerno, and Politecnico di Milano, the initiative seeks to optimize real-time communication between mobile units, emergency dispatch centers, and hospitals.

The system utilizes machine learning and high-speed connectivity to allow medical staff to manage critical situations with advanced tools, facilitating immediate patient care during transit. Key features include a digital assistant in the form of an avatar to support doctors with clinical data consultation and information synthesis.

To improve the handover process, the system automatically generates verifiable data summaries that physicians can review and correct before archiving. This integration of edge computing and AI is designed to reduce waiting times, ensure continuity of care, and enhance decision-making speed during emergencies while maintaining strict digital sovereignty and data security.
