Smart announces #5 update with Apple Wallet Key support
Smart has announced a wireless update for the #5 model, introducing compatibility with Apple Wallet Key. This feature allows owners of compatible iPhones and Apple Watches to unlock, lock, and start their vehicles simply by approaching them, eliminating the need for physical keys or the Hello smart app.
The update, designated as version OS 2.3.0 EU, is scheduled for deployment in European markets in mid-September. Key functionalities include hands-free access, automatic locking when the user moves away, and the ability to share digital keys with others, which can be revoked via Apple Wallet or the Hello smart app.
In addition to connectivity improvements, the update enhances safety by introducing driver distraction warnings. The system will issue notifications if the driver's gaze is continuously directed toward the entertainment screen or the passenger screen while driving. The update also includes improvements to vehicle stability and driving settings for a more customizable experience.
