Smart expands 5G coverage in Siargao for WSL Championship Tour

Smart Communications has upgraded its 5G network coverage and capacity across Siargao Island to support the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour. The expansion targets key locations including Cloud 9 in General Luna, Sayak Airport, and the Siargao Seaport.

This event marks the first time the Philippines has hosted an official stop on the WSL Championship Tour. The network enhancement aims to provide high-speed connectivity for athletes, media teams, content creators, and international spectators. During testing at the Cloud 9 boardwalk, the 5G network recorded download speeds of 870 Mbps and upload speeds of 59 Mbps.

Beyond the sporting event, the infrastructure improvements are intended to support the local tourism economy by enabling digital payments, accommodation bookings, and transit reservations for residents and visitors.
