Smart home security risks and FRITZ!Box router updates
Smart home devices and network hardware are facing increasing security scrutiny. Research indicates that internet-connected appliances, such as refrigerators and heating systems, create new attack surfaces for hackers. Vulnerabilities often arise when manufacturing and marketing outpace security hardening, allowing attackers to access networks through poorly secured endpoints.
To mitigate these risks, experts recommend consistent software updates, disabling unnecessary internet access, and utilizing two-factor authentication.
In related hardware developments, FRITZ!Box has released a new update for its Fritz-Labor beta program. The update targets five specific WLAN router models: the 5690 Pro, 5690 XGS, 5590 Fiber, 7590 AX, and 7590. The software improvements for the 7590 and 7590 AX models aim to correct errors regarding guest Wi-Fi expiration displays, improve memory data throughput, and resolve issues where Mesh repeaters were incorrectly reported as having disconnected.
