Smart TV market faces software longevity and rising component costs

The smart TV market is facing two distinct shifts regarding software longevity and component costs. Samsung has committed to providing seven years of software updates for its Tizen-based operating system for models released in 2024 and certain 2023 models, ensuring support until at least 2031.

Simultaneously, the cost structure of LCD televisions is changing. Due to the rising demand for DRAM and NAND memory driven by artificial intelligence and data centers, the main electronic boards for certain models—specifically 32-inch HD and 40-to-43-inch Full HD sets—are becoming more expensive than the display panels themselves. This trend is putting pressure on manufacturers to manage margins as component prices rise.
