SmartAsset report ranks U.S. cities for women in tech
A new SmartAsset report, ‘Best and Worst Cities for Women in Tech — 2026 Study’, evaluates 50 major U.S. cities based on gender pay gaps, the share of women in tech, tech employment concentration, and adjusted median earnings.
In Texas, Austin ranked 6th nationwide. The city has approximately 12,000 women in tech, representing nearly 23 percent of its local tech workforce. However, a significant pay gap remains; women in Austin’s tech sector earn a median of $99,500 after regional price parity adjustments, which is 80 percent of what their male counterparts earn.
Other Texas cities showed varying results. Fort Worth ranked 26th, with women making 89.2 percent of men’s earnings. Dallas ranked 32nd, where women make about 88 percent of what men earn. Arlington followed at 38th. Nationally, Miami and Memphis were the only two cities where women in tech earned more than men, at 101.7 percent and 101.5 percent of male earnings, respectively.
