Vodafone survey: Low smartphone battery causes users to cancel plans

A survey commissioned by Vodafone and conducted by the research institute Civey reveals that low smartphone battery levels significantly impact the daily lives and social plans of users. Approximately seven percent of the 2,500 adults surveyed reported canceling pre-arranged appointments due to a nearly empty battery.

The impact is most pronounced among younger demographics. In the 18 to 29 age group, nearly one in three (31 percent) admitted to canceling plans because of low battery life, compared to ten percent in the 30 to 39 age group. In contrast, older age groups showed much higher resilience, with only one to two percent reporting similar behavior.

The study also identified specific thresholds for battery-related anxiety. About 23 percent of respondents become restless when their battery drops below 20 percent, while 16 percent cite 10 percent as their critical threshold. Marcel de Groot, head of Vodafone Germany, noted that the results underscore the smartphone's role as essential daily infrastructure, serving as a navigator, camera, and even a car key.
