Smartphone battery depletion is often caused by background processes rather than heavy applications or aging hardware. A key culprit is Google Play Services, which consumes energy by continuously refreshing data, checking locations, and synchronizing accounts while the device is idle. To mitigate this, users can disable background data usage for Google Play Services, the main Google app, and the Play Store within the device's application settings. This allows apps to function normally when opened without draining resources while the screen is off.
Regarding power management, chargers left plugged into outlets without a device attached continue to consume a small amount of electricity, known as phantom power consumption. While a single charger typically uses only 0.1 to 0.5 watts, the cumulative effect can grow with multiple adapters. Beyond energy costs, safety is a concern; experts warn that low-quality, damaged, or unverified chargers pose a risk of overheating, short circuits, and potential fires.
