Smartphone performance myths debunked: closing apps unnecessary, screen brightness drives battery use
Closing all apps on a smartphone does not make the device run faster. Both Android and iOS already manage background processes, and forcing apps closed can even increase battery consumption. iOS, for example, keeps necessary data in memory to speed up app relaunch, and terminating apps manually does not improve performance.
Screen brightness is a far larger factor for battery life, accounting for roughly 30 % to 50 % of total power draw during typical use. Modern OLED displays consume less power on dark screens, so using darker themes or adaptive/automatic brightness can markedly extend runtime. Adjusting brightness settings, via automatic sensors or manual control, is the most effective way to improve mobile battery endurance.
