Smartphone prices rise as memory chip costs increase

Rising costs for memory chips and chipsets are driving up smartphone prices across several major brands. Companies including Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, Realme, and OnePlus have implemented price increases on various models.

Specific price adjustments include Realme increasing costs by 1,000 to 4,000 rupees, and Oppo raising prices on select Reno and A-series models by up to 5,000 rupees. Samsung has also adjusted prices for its S, M, and F series, with one Galaxy S25 variant increasing by as much as 12,000 rupees. OnePlus and Vivo have reported similar increases ranging from 500 to 4,000 rupees.

Industry analysts suggest these hikes are a response to shrinking manufacturer margins. Research from IDC Asia Pacific indicates that average smartphone prices had already risen by approximately 15 percent by the end of Q2 2026, with further increases of 7 to 10 percent expected due to ongoing component inflation.
