Smartphone settings can accelerate battery charging speeds

Users can accelerate smartphone charging speeds for both Android and iPhone devices by adjusting specific settings and habits without needing to purchase new hardware. Key factors that slow down charging include high screen brightness, background applications, mobile data usage, and device overheating.

Activating power-saving modes—known as ‘Economia de Energia’ on Android and ‘Modo Poupa Energia’ on iPhone—can reduce charging time by up to 25% by limiting secondary system activities and processing. Additionally, enabling Airplane Mode can speed up the process by disconnecting the device from cellular networks and signal searches.

To maintain efficiency, users should avoid high-intensity tasks like gaming, using GPS, or streaming high-quality video while the device is plugged in. Temperature management is also critical; overheating can cause the system to automatically reduce or stop the charging power to protect the battery. For faster results, using a physical cable is generally more efficient than wireless induction charging, which tends to generate more heat.
