Many also overlook regular backups, with only about 45% of users performing them, and connect to unsecured Wi‑Fi or leave Bluetooth enabled, increasing vulnerability.

Fire‑safety officials advise that charging a smartphone incorrectly poses fire risks. Only certified chargers should be used, and the device must be unplugged immediately if it overheats. The phone should be placed on smooth, non‑combustible surfaces away from heat sources such as sunlight, radiators or car dashboards. Fabrics and other absorbent materials can trap heat and ignite. Suitable spots include glass tables, treated wood, tile or stone countertops, which allow better heat dissipation.
