Smartphone vibration and notification settings guide

A smartphone may vibrate without ringing when the ringtone is disabled, a silent‑mode shortcut is activated, or an app routes alerts to vibration only. Common causes include altered settings, software bugs, Bluetooth or accessory interference, and hardware issues such as a faulty vibrator motor. Users should check the ringtone volume, silent or Do‑Not‑Disturb modes, notification channel configurations, and connected devices, and test the hardware if necessary.

On iPhone, iOS provides granular control of notifications. Each app can be set to show alerts on the lock screen, as banners, or only in the notification centre, with optional badge icons, sounds, or vibrations. Adjusting these options in Settings → Notifications, grouping alerts, and using scheduled summaries can reduce distraction and save battery life. The newer Focus modes let users create profiles that silence non‑essential notifications during work or sleep.
