Smartwatch battery life trends show gap between Apple and competitors

Testing of flagship smartwatches in 2026 highlights a significant disparity in battery performance between Apple Watch models and other wearable brands. While Apple users often face frequent charging requirements, competitors like Garmin and Amazfit offer much longer runtimes.

Smartwatch battery life currently falls into four distinct tiers: solar-powered models that can run for months, ultra-long-life devices lasting 30 to 90 days, long-life AMOLED watches lasting up to 27 days, and Wear OS devices that typically require charging every 2 to 5 days. Specific models like the Garmin Instinct 2X Solar and the Amazfit T-Rex 3 are noted for their extended endurance.

In a separate reflection on the Apple Watch's ten-year history, developer David Smith reported wearing the device for 78,537 hours, representing 97.1% of possible days since its release. Smith noted that the device has become an essential tool for health tracking and lifestyle management.
