Smartwatch market updates: Garmin firmware issues and fitness tracker reviews

The wearable technology market is seeing both product evaluations and technical setbacks. Analysis of affordable smartwatches for strength training highlights models like the COROS Pace 3, which offers precise control over exercises, muscle groups, and rest periods. Additionally, the Amazfit Active 3 Premium is noted for its ability to automatically recognize 25 different strength movements, such as squats and bench presses, to assist with recovery metrics.

In contrast, Garmin users of the Fenix 8 high-end model have reported significant issues following the 23.39 firmware update. The update reportedly deactivates the optical heart rate sensor, resulting in the loss of pulse readings, Pulse Ox, nocturnal heart rate variability (HRV), and certain sleep and Body Battery data. While the devices remain functional, the core biometric monitoring capabilities are compromised. No official fix has been released, though a resolution is expected in a future update.
