Smíchov railway station reconstruction to begin in 2029

Major reconstruction of the Smíchov railway station in Prague is scheduled to begin in 2029 and is expected to last approximately two years. According to Pavel Paidar, director of the construction preparation department at Správa železnic, the project includes the renovation of the main building and the construction of a new southern wing. This new wing is intended to house shops, restaurants, public toilets, and luggage storage for passengers.

This project follows an ongoing reconstruction of the railway station that began in 2024, which is slated for completion in 2028. That phase involves rebuilding tracks, renewing platforms, and constructing a new pedestrian footbridge. The total cost for the station project is estimated at 5.1 billion CZK, with much of the funding provided by European funds.

Further urban development in the area includes a new bus terminal to be built above the tracks, replacing the current Na Knížecí location. This plan is being coordinated between the Prague City Council and Správa železnic and will also include a new P+R parking facility.
