Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar calls for gender equality in AI at GITEX

At the GITEX Ai Türkiye 2026 event in Istanbul, Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees for the Women and Democracy Foundation (KADEM), addressed the necessity of female representation in the artificial intelligence sector.

Bayraktar warned that the male-dominated structure of the technology industry risks embedding real-world biases into digital code. She noted that algorithms trained on non-inclusive data can lead to digital discrimination in critical areas such as automated recruitment processes and bank credit assessment systems. To ensure technology is inclusive, she emphasized that algorithms must be trained with fairer and more unbiased data.

Furthermore, Bayraktar highlighted the importance of women participating in the entire lifecycle of technology—as designers, producers, investors, and decision-makers. She called on families to encourage young girls to pursue science and technology, stressing that supporting curiosity and confidence from an early age is vital for shaping future innovation.
