Smiling Friends creators suggest possible future return
Creators Michael Cusack and Zach Hadel have addressed the potential future of the animated series ‘Smiling Friends’ following its Emmy nomination. While the show was previously expected to conclude after its third season, the creators indicated that a fourth season remains a possibility in the future.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the duo clarified that the decision to end the series early was due to exhaustion rather than a lack of creativity. Hadel dismissed rumors of creative burnout, noting that they maintain a document full of ideas but felt that continuing while depleted would cause the show to lose its ‘spark’ or ‘juice.’
Cusack mentioned that scripts for a fourth season had already been written. He stated that if they feel motivated to return to the series in a few years, they may revisit those scripts or start fresh. Hadel described the likelihood of a return as variable, noting that the probability fluctuates between 20 and 80 percent depending on the day.
