Smilla Sundell secures UFC contract after Contender Series win

Smilla Sundell has secured a UFC contract after winning a unanimous decision against Aline Pereira at Meta APEX in Las Vegas during Dana White’s Contender Series. Despite her victory, UFC President Dana White initially expressed reservations regarding Sundell’s age, though he ultimately proceeded with the contract following internal team discussions.

The 21-year-old Swedish fighter, a former ONE Championship Muay Thai world champion, expressed a desire for a gradual progression into the rankings rather than an immediate leap. Sundell noted that she is prioritizing daily grappling and jiu-jitsu training to round out her skills.

Sundell cited Swedish MMA figures Alexander Gustafsson and Khamzat Chimaev as inspirations. She stated her ultimate goal is to become the best in the division and eventually challenge for the championship.
