Smolyan Mayor Nikolay Melemov Lifts Emergency Status After Landslide Near Pamporovo

Mayor Nikolay Melemov of Smolyan cancelled the disaster emergency that had been declared on 1 May after a landslide blocked the SmolyanPamporovo road near the Raykovski meadows. Approximately 5,000 sq m of earth slid onto a 70‑metre stretch of the road, prompting traffic to be rerouted via Stoykite and the “Rojen” pass and causing a temporary interruption of gas supply to the resort.

The emergency was lifted after the regional electricity distributor completed work on a second independent power line for the Pamporovo ski complex, ensuring a secure electricity supply. The mayor inspected the site personally before the order was signed. The landslide remains active, and specialists are expected to evaluate drainage measures and the timing for deploying heavy‑equipment to stabilize the area.
