Smolyan-Pamporovo road restoration to feature bridge over landslide
Experts from the Road Infrastructure Agency have selected the construction of a bridge as a primary option to restore the Smolyan-Pamporovo road, which has been closed since a landslide occurred on May 1 in the Raykovski Livadi area. The landslide was triggered by heavy rainfall and groundwater located approximately 50 cm below the surface.
Technical specialists are currently evaluating two structural designs for the bridge: steel-concrete and metal. The decision-making process involves the Regional Road Administration in Smolyan, the Smolyan Municipality, the Institute for Roads and Bridges, and Geo-protection Pernik.
Until the road is repaired, traffic between Smolyan and Pamporovo is being diverted through alternative routes via Stoyki and the Rozhen Pass. Officials stated that the priority is to implement the fastest and most durable solution rather than the cheapest one to ensure long-term safety.
