SMU defeats Cal 59-20 following second-half scoring surge

SMU secured a 59-20 victory over California on Saturday, October 24, 2026, after scoring 42 unanswered points in the second half. Despite trailing 20-17 at halftime, the Mustangs overcame the deficit to improve their record to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in ACC play.

Quarterback Kevin Jennings set the SMU career passing touchdown record during the game, recording his 73rd career touchdown pass. Running back Kendrick Raphael, who previously played for Cal, led the rushing attack with 104 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding a touchdown through the air.

The win serves as a form of revenge for SMU, following a loss to the Golden Bears in the previous season that prevented them from reaching the 2025 ACC Championship.
