Syracuse football upsets No. 19 SMU 30-27

Syracuse football secured a 30-27 upset victory over No. 19 SMU on Halloween at the JMA Wireless Dome. The win brings Syracuse to a 4-4 record and marks their first victory against a ranked opponent since November 2024.

Quarterback Steve Angeli led a decisive 11-play, late-game drive, culminating in a 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Noah Meyers with just 17 seconds remaining. Angeli finished the game with 200 passing yards and a 26-yard rushing touchdown. The Syracuse defense recorded four sacks, including three by Keyshawn Johnson, and recovered two fumbles to help secure the win.

SMU, led by quarterback Kevin Jennings, who threw for 351 yards and two touchdowns, previously held a 27-23 lead. The Mustangs' offense was hampered by a struggling offensive line that allowed six sacks. The loss potentially impacts SMU's standing in the ACC Championship and College Football Playoff race.
