SMU overcomes Missouri State to win 34-24 behind Kevin Jennings' record performance

No. 22 SMU defeated Missouri State 34-24 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium in Dallas, overcoming an early 10-0 deficit. Senior quarterback Kevin Jennings delivered a record-breaking performance, throwing for a career-high 464 yards and three touchdowns. During the game, Jennings became SMU’s all-time career passing leader with 7,22 completions and 9,162 yards, while also setting the school record for career touchdowns.

Despite the victory, the Mustangs struggled with miscues, including 12 penalties for 106 yards and two turnovers that contributed to Missouri State’s early lead. Yamir Knight recorded 11 receptions for 164 yards and a touchdown, while Kendrick Raphael added 98 rushing yards and a score. Missouri State’s Skyler Locklear was injured in the fourth quarter after helping the Bears narrow the gap to 21-18.

SMU Head Coach Rhett Lashlee praised Jennings’ performance, noting that while the team made the game difficult for themselves, the quarterback was “fantastic” and “awesome.”
