Snap launches Specs AR glasses with $2,195 price tag

Snap Inc. announced its new augmented‑reality eyewear, Specs, which the company describes as a transparent computer that brings computing into the world around the user. CEO Evan Spiegel said the device is “the next evolution of wearable computing” and positioned it as a more capable alternative to existing AI glasses and less cumbersome than virtual‑reality headsets.

Specs feature a liquid‑crystal‑on‑silicon display with a 51‑degree field of view, support for 16 million colours, and up to four hours of mixed‑use battery life. The glasses weigh about 132‑136 g, are made from Swiss TR90 polymer, and offer removable prescription inserts. They include private display streaming, screen‑casting, collaborative whiteboards and mobile workspaces, with parental‑control options but no facial‑recognition features.

The device will be sold for $2,195, requiring a refundable $200 deposit to pre‑order. Snap plans to ship the glasses later this fall in the United States, the United Kingdom and France.
