Snapchat bans AI‑generated videos from Spotlight as platforms curb AI spam

Snapchat announced that fully AI‑generated videos will no longer be eligible for the Spotlight recommendation feed starting 2 August 2026. The change aligns with the European Union’s new AI transparency law, which requires platforms to clearly label AI‑created or significantly altered content. Snapchat said the move is intended to give more space to authentic, human‑made stories and preserve the value of original perspectives.

LinkedIn is testing a feature that lets users flag comments that appear to be mass‑generated by artificial intelligence, aiming to improve recommendation quality. Tele2’s digital‑content director Justina Antropik explained that platforms are shifting from sheer content volume to quality, noting, “AI itself is not a problem – it can help formulate thoughts, but the issue arises when it creates massive uniform content that adds nothing new.” AI‑generated material will still be allowed on the platforms but will be marked and shown less frequently.

These adjustments come as the EU’s AI‑generated‑content rules take effect on 2 August 2026, requiring clear identification of AI‑produced media and deep‑fake material.
