Snapchat adds real-time Spotify music sharing to Snap Map

Snapchat has launched the "Now Playing" feature, integrating Spotify so that users can display the song they are currently listening to on their Snap Map profile. When a Spotify account is linked, the current track appears on the map and friends can tap it to open the song in Spotify, add it to their Liked Songs library, or view related Spotlight videos.

The rollout is beginning in regions where both Snapchat and Spotify are available, with Canada slated to receive the feature soon. Users can choose who sees their listening status – all friends, friends who have location access, a custom list, or nobody – and the sharing automatically pauses after 24 hours of inactivity, with manual pause options of three hours, 24 hours or indefinitely.

Snap Map now serves more than 450 million monthly active users, expanding the platform beyond location sharing into real‑time music discovery. Snapchat’s Head of Music, Manny Adler, said the tool is intended to let users "share the soundtrack to their day" and aligns with a broader industry move toward social audio integration.
