Snape Wood Community Centre signs first new Nottingham lease
Snape Wood Community Centre in Bulwell has become the first facility to sign a new lease agreement with Nottingham City Council under a revised management model. The initiative aims to secure the future of the city’s community centres by transitioning them to third-sector organisations.
Under the new arrangement, community associations will take on responsibilities for repairs, maintenance, and compliance. This shift allows these organisations to access external funding sources unavailable to the council. In return, the associations will pay a nominal rent based on the council’s portfolio management costs rather than market rates. The council has committed to covering essential health and safety costs.
Nottingham City Council Leader Neghat Khan stated that the plan is intended to ensure a sustainable future for these vital neighbourhood hubs amidst changing council finances. The council intends for Snape Wood to be the first of many centres to adopt this model.
