Snap's $2,195 Specs AR Glasses Launch Triggers Stock Drop

Snap unveiled its first consumer augmented‑reality glasses, called Specs, at the Augmented World Expo 2026. Priced at $2,195, the device targets high‑end computing users and is positioned between lighter smart‑glasses and heavier mixed‑reality headsets. Specs feature two Qualcomm Snapdragon processors, a 51‑degree field of view, up to four hours of use, and a charging case that extends total battery life to about 20 hours. The glasses will ship in September 2026 to the United States, United Kingdom and France, with pre‑orders available now for a refundable $200 deposit.

Investors reacted negatively to the price, sending Snap’s shares down more than 5% after the announcement, trading below the pre‑launch level. The company’s CEO, Evan Spiegel, defended the pricing by describing the glasses as a computer rather than conventional smart eyewear. Snap is counting on developers to create applications for the new platform and has established a dedicated subsidiary, Specs Inc., to oversee the hardware business.
