SNCF rail modernization works cause service disruptions in France

SNCF is conducting extensive rail modernization projects across different regions in France, leading to various service interruptions and local disturbances.

On the Bordeaux-Toulouse line, major works to prepare for a future high-speed line will cause total traffic stoppages this autumn. Between Bordeaux and Langon, traffic will be halted from November 21 until the afternoon of November 26. Similarly, the section between Toulouse and Montauban will see interruptions from the night of November 20 through the morning of November 27. A further 24-hour work session is scheduled for the weekend of December 5 and 6. These operations focus on catenaries, signaling, and track structures, including the completion of platforms at Castelnau-d’Estrétefonds.

In Savigny-sur-Orge, SNCF Réseau is renewing track 2 from October 19 through December 23, 2026. To avoid paralyzing the strategic Paris-Orléans line, most work is scheduled at night. While this preserves daytime traffic, it has caused significant noise pollution and parking difficulties for local residents. The municipality of Savigny-sur-Orge is currently in discussions with SNCF Réseau to secure measures for noise mitigation and site cleanliness.
