SNCF train services disrupted by fallen tree in Eure
Train traffic on the Paris–Caen–Cherbourg line was severely disrupted on Saturday evening, October 24, after a tree fell onto the tracks near Beaumont-le-Roger in the Eure department. The incident caused significant damage to the overhead catenary lines, halting service in both directions between Évreux and Lisieux.
Hundreds of passengers were stranded at Évreux station, where many were forced to wait on platforms or in waiting rooms for several hours. SNCF mobilized six buses to transport passengers from affected trains toward Évreux and Paris. While some technical teams managed to restore power to one train, allowing it to return to Trouville-Deauville, other services remained immobilized.
Due to the extent of the damage and difficult weather conditions, including heavy rain and recent storms, SNCF initially planned to resume service late Saturday night but eventually had to cancel all remaining trains on the line for the evening. The company has invited passengers who experienced significant delays to apply for compensation.
