Sònia Hernández vows to fight court‑ordered transfer of Sixena murals
Catalonia’s culture minister Sònia Hernández says she will oppose the court‑mandated relocation of the Sixena (Sijena) mural cycle from the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) to Aragon. She argues the move would jeopardise the paintings’ preservation and intends to pursue every legal avenue, describing a forced removal like the 2017 Lleida museum case as "lamentable."
Hernández notes that the MNAC board has filed an execution incident, claiming some judgments cannot be carried out without irreparable damage. She also points to a pending claim of more than €790,000 for works transferred to Aragon after the 2017 purchase was deemed invalid, and stresses the support of the Spanish Ministry of Culture in the dispute.
