Sniper Alley releases new photographs of besieged Sarajevo

Sniper Alley has released 75 previously unseen photographs documenting life in Sarajevo during the siege. The images were captured by American photojournalist Martin Sugarman, providing a visual record of the period when citizens faced daily shelling, sniper fire, and extreme shortages.

Sugarman, a former sociologist and professional surfer, began his war photography career in 1992 after documenting social conditions in Mexico. His work in Bosnia and Croatia led to the 1993 publication of ‘God Be with You: War in Croatia and Bosnia-Herzegovina’, a book whose imagery has been utilized by international media and human rights organizations to illustrate the impact of the conflict.
