SNK Corporation dissolves subsidiary SNK Entertainment
SNK Corporation has officially dissolved its wholly owned subsidiary, SNK Entertainment, effective August 20, 2026, according to a notice in Japan’s government gazette.
Originally established in 2009 and revitalized in 2016, SNK Entertainment was tasked with expanding the company’s intellectual property through licensing, digital content, and merchandise for franchises such as The King of Fighters, Metal Slug, Fatal Fury, and Samurai Shodown.
The dissolution follows a 2022 restructuring where most of the subsidiary’s core functions—including game development, sales, marketing, and licensing—were transferred back to the parent company, SNK, via an absorption-type corporate split. As the subsidiary had been largely inactive for several years, the dissolution is expected to have minimal impact on daily operations.
Concurrently, SNK is expanding its development capabilities through VS Studio SNK, a Tokyo-based studio led by former Tekken director Katsuhiro Harada, which will collaborate on software development.
