Sněžka records first continuous snow cover of the season
The first continuous snow cover of the season has been recorded on Sněžka, the highest mountain in the Czech Republic. Following snow showers on Sunday, October 11, approximately 2 cm of snow was measured on Monday morning.
While the snowfall affected several regions, including the Jizera Mountains and Šumava, Sněžka was the primary location to maintain a consistent layer due to light frost. Although the snow began to melt by midday, meteorological stations in both the Czech Republic and Poland confirmed the occurrence.
Weather conditions at the summit included temperatures near zero degrees Celsius, though strong winds resulted in a wind chill of approximately minus seven degrees Celsius. The high winds also caused a temporary suspension of the upper section of the Sněžka cable car service.
