Snooker season kicks off: Shanghai Masters begins, Polish player clinches English Open win

The Shanghai Masters, a prestigious invitational snooker tournament, starts on Monday 27 July in Shanghai, China. The event will be broadcast live online via Eurosport on the WP portal. Top-ranked players such as world number‑one Judd Trump, Mark Selby, Kyren Wilson and others are on the draw, with a winner’s prize of £210,000 and £10,000 for each participant. No Polish player received an invitation for this edition.

Later in the season, the English Open will take place from 7 to 13 September in Brentwood, England. Polish professional Mateusz Baranowski faced two‑time women’s world champion Bai Yulu in the opening round. Baranowski won convincingly 4‑0, securing the frame scores needed to maintain his tour status and marking an important result for Polish snooker ahead of upcoming ranking events.
