Balkan mountains experience early snowfall
High-altitude mountains across the Balkan region have begun experiencing winter weather conditions. In North Macedonia, snow has covered the higher elevations of Shar Planina and formed a layer on Popova Shapka. While lower areas remain in typical autumn conditions, temperatures on the mountains have dropped significantly.
In Serbia, snowfall has also been recorded on the Golija and Kopaonik mountains. On Kopaonik, temperatures have reached approximately minus 2 degrees Celsius, with snow accumulating on roads and causing reduced visibility due to fog. Authorities have advised drivers to use winter equipment and exercise caution on mountain passes, particularly on the route from Brzeće toward the summit, where icy and slippery conditions persist.
