Snowfall hits Slovenian mountains as cold wave approaches

Snow has begun to cover high-altitude regions in Slovenia, with significant accumulation reported in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps and on Kredarica, where a snow cover of 12 centimeters has formed. Other areas such as Kanin, Vršič, Zelenica, and Vogel have also recorded snow or freezing temperatures.

Meteorologists predict a new wave of cooling for the upcoming weekend, which may cause the snow line to drop into the higher valleys of the Julian Alps. While mountain regions experience winter conditions, lowland areas have primarily dealt with rain and milder temperatures.

Long-term seasonal models suggest that parts of the Balkans, Scandinavia, and Central Europe may experience less snow than usual this winter, though these forecasts remain subject to change.
