Snowfall impacts mountain roads in El Carmen and San Fabián

Heavy snowfall has impacted the precordillera sectors of El Carmen and San Fabián, prompting emergency responses to maintain rural connectivity. In El Carmen, Mayor Renán Cabezas reported snow accumulation in areas such as Lo Palacios, San José, and Los Riscos. Municipal security and Carabineros are patrolling to assess road conditions and prevent route closures.

In San Fabián, intense snow began falling Friday night, affecting localities including Los Sauces and El Roble. Mayor Cristofer Valdés stated that the primary challenge is the accumulation of snow on high-altitude roads, specifically noting that the route to Puente Inglés is completely covered. Municipal teams, Vialidad, and maintenance companies are working with motor graders to clear the paths.

Authorities in both regions have urged citizens to avoid traveling to mountain areas for recreational purposes to prevent road damage and complications for residents. While connectivity remains intact in some sectors and no power outages have been reported in San Fabián's high zones, forecasts suggest continued precipitation and low temperatures through the weekend.
