SNP members pass resolution supporting UK-wide ban on X

Members of the Scottish National Party (SNP) have overwhelmingly passed a resolution at their annual conference in Aberdeen calling for a UK-wide ban on the social media platform X. The motion advocates for the SNP, elected representatives, local councils, the Scottish Government, and other public bodies to cease using the platform.

Proponents of the resolution, including member Erin Lux, argued that the platform has become a “hotbed of mis- and disinformation” and expressed concerns regarding the hosting of child sexual abuse material and the impact of its AI chatbot, Grok. The resolution emphasizes the need for “responsible use of social media” and seeks to prevent public institutions from lending credibility to a platform described as a “right wing radicalisation machine.”
