SNQTB petitions Portuguese Parliament to reform bank pension rules

The National Union of Bank Officers and Technicians (SNQTB) has submitted a petition with 22,686 signatures to the Assembly of the Republic to demand changes to the pension adjustment rules for bank employees.

The union seeks to clarify the relationship between pensions provided by Social Security or the Caixa Geral de Aposentações (CGA) and those supported by banks. Under current regulations, specifically Decree-Law No. 1-A/2011, payments from public systems can be used to reduce the pension amounts that banks are responsible for paying.

SNQTB argues that banks must remain responsible for pension obligations related to service periods completed before December 31, 2010. The union is calling for legislative clarification to ensure that public system benefits do not diminish the financial responsibilities of banks and their respective pension funds, protecting both current retirees and current workers who will face these rules in the future.
