SNS conditions budget support on tax changes and higher public wages
The Slovak National Party (SNS) has announced that its support for the upcoming state budget is conditional upon several tax and wage changes. The party is demanding the full abolition of the transaction tax and a reduction in excise duties on fuel to bring Slovak prices in line with other Visegrád Group (V4) nations.
Additionally, SNS is calling for increased taxation on banks and energy companies through special levies. Regarding the public sector, the party rejects a proposed 4% wage increase for state administration and the Police Force, instead demanding a minimum 10% increase to ensure proper wage valorization.
In response to these demands, Tibor Gašpar of the Smer-SD party indicated that a complete abolition of the transaction tax is unlikely, as the government has yet to identify a method to compensate for the resulting loss in state revenue.
