SNS party pressures Slovak Environment Minister Taraba to resign
The Slovak political party SNS is increasing pressure on Environment Minister Tomáš Taraba to resign. SNS parliamentary club leader Roman Michelko stated that Taraba should leave his position by September 15, suggesting that Filip Kuffa is the intended successor. The party has indicated it may use parliamentary obstruction if Taraba remains in office.
Taraba has declined to comment directly on the potential for his resignation, characterizing the discussions as tabloid topics. He noted he is currently focused on ministerial duties, specifically regarding wind farm developments.
In a separate policy matter, Taraba addressed the strategic environmental assessment (SEA) for wind energy acceleration zones. He noted that the Ministry of Environment could use the SEA to declare certain locations unsuitable for wind farm construction. This move has drawn criticism from the Klimatická koalícia, which warned that such actions might be viewed by the European Commission as a reversal of reforms and could jeopardize Slovakia's EU commitments.
