Dodik and Čović announce continued partnership to form BiH government

Following recent elections in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Milorad Dodik (SNSD) and Dragan Čović (HDZ BiH) have announced a continued political partnership. The leaders met in Banja Luka to discuss the formation of state-level government, agreeing that the first step will be the constitution of the Presidency, which is expected to include Željka Cvijanović (SNSD) and Darijana Filipović (HDZ BiH). Both leaders emphasized that their parties are indispensable to forming a functional government and expressed a commitment to the country's European path, provided it respects the constitutional status of the three constituent peoples.

In regional developments, the SDA has formed a ten-party coalition in Goražde for the 2026-2030 mandate, securing a two-thirds majority in the Bosanski-Podrinjski Canton Assembly.

Political tensions remain high. Elmedin Konaković, Minister of Foreign Affairs, criticized the Dodik-Čović partnership, accusing Čović of aligning with interests that undermine the state and warning that legal mechanisms exist to dismiss HDZ-proposed directors in the Federation of BiH. Meanwhile, Christian Schmidt, the former High Representative, warned that while armed conflict is not imminent, political stagnation and ethnic divisions continue to threaten the country's future.
