SNTE Section 31 faces pressure over delayed leadership elections

Teachers in Tlaxcala are increasing pressure on the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) Section 31 to issue a public call for leadership renewal. Although the current leadership's term concluded in 2025, no official date or rules for new elections have been announced.

The “Transformación 31” project, led by Juan Arturo Hernández Hernández, has emerged to demand transparency regarding the election process. The group, which includes active, retired, and pensioned teachers, is calling for a universal, direct, and secret vote to ensure democratic participation and prevent divisions based on seniority or educational level.

While local leadership maintains that the timing for the convocatoria is determined by the SNTE National Executive Committee rather than the state representation, educators continue to demand a clear roadmap for the transition.
