SNTE teachers union discusses pension reforms and secures vacation discounts

On July 17, 2026, teachers from Sections 8 and 42 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) met with Professor Martín Chaparro Payán, a Morena candidate for coordinating the Fourth Transformation in Chihuahua. The dialogue addressed teacher dismissals, institutional violence, and the pension system, with Chaparro proposing a shift back to a solidary pension model and the creation of specialist panels to study and resolve teachers' issues.

Two days later, on July 19, 2026, SNTE Section 51 signed a collaboration agreement with the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS). The pact grants more than 37,000 active and retired teachers a 15 % discount on accommodation and a 40 % discount on recreational facilities at IMSS vacation centers in Oaxtepec, Atlixco‑Metepec, La Trinidad and Malintzi, usable by the teacher and up to five companions with a digital union credential.
