SNTE union leaders petition President Sheinbaum over teacher payment crises
Teachers represented by the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) have approached President Claudia Sheinbaum during her recent visits to Morelos and Zacatecas to address ongoing labor disputes and unpaid wages.
In Morelos, SNTE Section 19 reported a payment crisis affecting educators in the DGETI and DGETAyCM subsystems. This financial issue has triggered a work stoppage, impacting more than 20,000 students as they attempt to begin the 2026-2027 school year. Union leader Joel Sánchez Vélez delivered a formal petition to the President, who committed to reviewing the case and coordinating with relevant authorities.
In Zacatecas, SNTE Section 58 leader Marcelino Rodarte requested the establishment of a tripartite negotiation table. This proposed forum would include representatives from the federal government, state authorities, and union leadership to resolve regional educational demands. The President received and signed the formal request during her visit to the state.
